Rocky is a sweet, sensitive, protective, and incredibly intelligent Rottie blend in search of a forever home that he deserves. For those that want the Rottie traits but may not be able to have a full-sized one, he is a great choice for you. He has the sweetest, soulful eyes with adorable ears, cute webbed paws, and is a svelte 60 pounds,  which is surprising as he doesn’t look to weigh that much.

Health-wise, initially, he was heartworm positive, received treatment, has been on HW preventative, and after 6 mos, he was tested again and has been declared HW free. He is UTD with his shots and during the time we’ve had him, he’s been healthy and happy.

Regarding his temperament, he is super sweet, calm, and very sensitive. He has no dominance traits, and if he even thinks there might be a chance of any confrontation, he removes himself from the situation asap. The flip side is that he’s always willing to play and is the life of the party amongst the current pack and can hold his own amongst the 3 larger breeds that he lives with. He also plays well with puppies and humans. While he is an active dog and needs to remain such, Rocky is not hyper. At the vet, for example, he is extremely calm in the lobby and just watches the other dogs. If one approaches him, he is very receptive but he doesn’t get hyper. He is afraid of the vet but he won’t try to bite him, instead, he becomes incredibly submissive. When we walk him, other dogs interest him but he doesn’t become anxious.

And as mentioned, he does need physical activity throughout the day to keep him happy and balanced. Minimally, he should have a long walk once a day, and then either play with other dogs throughout the day or play with his human family. He doesn’t need to do this 24/7 but is definitely not a couch potato. He needs ‘average’ activity. And if there are not any other dogs in the household, he should interact with other dogs from time to time as he needs that kind of mental stimulation and play. He would not do well in only hanging out with humans and never interacting with other dogs. Also, because of his sensitivity, he would do well with older children rather than younger, and he must have a clam home environment.

Although we’re pretty sure Rocky was a street dog for various reasons, he was potty trained within 3 days (it took my foster fail over  2 months) & he has gone from having zero understanding of human affection to being one that loves to cuddle, gives kisses from time to time, and enjoys belly rubs. He will also take his morning nap next to us while we work just in case we want to share a little bit of toast with him or give him scratches, or if he has to alert anyone approaching the house that he is on guard duty.

Rocky is also incredibly intelligent. He figured out that I tend to drop kibble when preparing their meals, and so he started hanging out while we prepared the meals so that he could grab the ones that fell on the floor (none of my others figured this out). Also, he will drop his kong ball on purpose to dislodge the carrots placed inside it, and he quickly figures out commands and patterns of behavior. Rocky is also a good watch dog and will bark when someone comes to the door. He also loves to chase squirrels and often, will hang outside to keep an eye out on them, while the rest of the gang hangs out inside. Rocky also loves to bathe outside in the sunlight.

If interested, we can provide more info, answer any questions, and share pictures and videos. Whomever gets him will be so incredibly lucky and after all he has been through, Rocky definitely deserves a loving, kind, and caring family that will share their home with him.
